How to Grow Your Email List with Pinterest

Email marketing is one of the easiest and most effective ways to market your business. Ask any marketing expert and I guarantee email marketing is at the top of their list as far as what you need to be focusing on as a business owner….but why?

Unlike Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or basically any other social media platform, your email list is the only thing you actually own. If these other platforms crashed and burned tomorrow (although highly unlikely) what would you do? Would your business crash as well because you have all of your marketing eggs in one basket.

Today, I am sharing 4 tips all about how to grow your email list with Pinterest.

Tip #1: Optimize Your Pinterest Account

Before I dive into the good stuff, we have to start by optimizing your Pinterest account. An optimized Pinterest account is one that uses keywords in all the right places. Keywords are essential to your success on Pinterest considering Pinterest is a search engine so we want to make sure you are using them correctly.

But before you add in all those keywords, you want to make sure you have a business account setup rather than a personal account. You can go to business.pinterest.com to sign up for a business account today if you don’t already have one.

Once that’s out of the way, then you can conduct your keyword research right on the platform. Create a keyword bank of keywords that your audience is searching for and then use those to create your Pinterest boards where your pins will live along with your display name and bio. If you want to learn more about keywords and how to find them, check out this blog.

You will want to make sure you are using keywords in all of these places:

  • Display name and bio
  • Board titles and board descriptions
  • Pin titles and pin descriptions
  • Pin text overlay

Now that you have a business account setup and you have optimized your account with keywords, you are ready to grow your email list using Pinterest.

Tip #2: Create Irresistible Content and One Amazing Lead Magnet

The first step to growing your email list is to actually attract your ideal audience with irresistible content and one kicka** lead magnet. That’s right, I fully believe that you can grow an email list with ONE lead magnet. One amazing lead magnet that is.

When it comes to creating irresistible content, you really have to think about your audience’s pain points. What are they struggling with right now? What do they need from you to make their lives easier? If you are unsure about this, I would start off by doing some market research on Pinterest, social media, or Google.

Once you know what your audience needs, create blogs that speak to those pain points and create that one irresistible lead magnet as well. I have found that the most successful businesses are those that create one new blog post a week. Pinterest loves fresh content so with one new blog a week and a bundle of new pins, you are more likely to get in front of your audience.

So you write all of these blogs but how the heck does this help you grow your email list?

This is where tip number three comes is….

Tip #3: Create Scroll Stopping Pins

For every blog post you write, I recommend creating a handful of pins. You will then pin each pin on Pinterest and with the right keywords and a scroll stopping image, your ideal audience will click on one of those pins and land on your blog.

You may still be wondering how the heck this helps to grow your email list, so let’s dive into tip number 4…

Tip #4: Optimize your Blogs and Website

After someone clicks on your pin, they will land on your blog. Your goal is to draw them in and get them to read the entire blog. This is why tip #2 is so important. You want to be creating content that your audience actually needs.

As they read your blog, you will want to insert your lead magnet. Quickly share why they need this freebie and entice them to optin in.

For example, I have this awesome beginners guide to getting started on Pinterest which you can download now when you sign up!

We respect your privacy. Unsubscribe at anytime.

See how easy that was?! You learned in tip #1 that you need to optimize your Pinterest account and now you’re being served a freebie that helps you with this. Why wouldn’t you opt in?

You can choose to embed your optin like I just did with a form, you can hyperlink it, or you can add it to the end of your email.

No matter what, always give your audience an opportunity to get on your list.

You can also have a pop up that entices people to optin. I recommend that this is a delayed popup and people can easily exit out. There is nothing more annoying than being on my iphone and not being able to find the X to get out.

Bonus Tip: Create Pins for Your Lead Magnet

I find that people optin to a lead magnet more often when it is embedded in a blog post because they establish the know, like, and trust, but I also like to create pins that lead directly to the lead magnet as well.

Just create a handful of pins that lead to the direct link of the optin and boom, people are on your list. Make sure that your lead magnet has enough information about what they are getting since you won’t have all the fluff like you do in a blog post.
